Tofino/Ucluelet, BC
Tofino and Ucluelet were primarily maritime trading towns until the 1950s when a logging road built through the mountains between Port Alberni and the coast began bringing tourists to the area. The towns are located on Vancouver Island's central west coast, about 300 km northwest of Victoria. Ucluelet, meaning "safe harbour", is located south of Tofino at the western entrance to Barclay Sound. The town was so named by the local Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations. Many say that Tofino and Ucluelet are the most beautiful places on Vancouver Island, home to long stretches of sandy beaches, and near the one of the largest swatches of old growth rainforest in BC.
