Better Business Bureau (BBB) is calling on all Vancouver Island consumers to help celebrate ethical businesses.
Each year BBB participates in two special annual events that truly focus on recognizing businesses that are committed to maintaining trustworthy, ethical business practices.
The most significant celebration is the annual Torch Awards event. Consumers can help BBB recognize businesses that go above and beyond in their commitment to ethics by nominating a business for the 2010 Torch Awards. All businesses, no matter what industry and regardless of whether they are an Accredited Business are eligible to be nominated and to win a prestigious Torch Award.
The deadline for Torch Award nominations is March 5, 2010.

to download a nomination form. Drop your nomination off at the BBB Office, send it via mail (#220-1175 Cook Street; Victoria B.C.; V8V 4A1) or fax (250.386.2367) or email it to wendy@vi.bbb.org. Nominations simply require the businesses contact information; the nominees contact information; and a brief explanation of why you think the business deserves an award.
“If you know of a business that is dedicated to serving the public, a business that takes that little bit of extra time to show they care — they deserve to be recognized,” says Rosalind Scott, Executive Director of BBB Vancouver Island. “Take a moment and nominate these businesses for a Torch Award.”
The second important activity BBB participates in each year is the release and distribution of the Accredited Business Directory. This year the Accredited Business Directory will be distributed directly to the doorstep of 160,000 households across Vancouver Island in early February. The directory is a free comprehensive guide with tips and resources for becoming a smart shopper that includes a complete listing of all BBB Accredited Businesses operating in the region. Consumers are encouraged to look for the directory, to put it with their phone book and to seek out Accredited Businesses when they shop.
“There are so many amazing businesses operating on Vancouver Island. BBB encourages the public to honour and recognize good businesses by nominating any business that deserve a Torch Award,” says Scott. “We also encourage consumers to look for, use and support BBB Accredited Businesses that have made a formal commitment to maintaining trustworthy operations. With the current state of the economy all good business needs your support!”
