BBB Shred It! Secure Your ID Day A Great Success

VICTORIA – The BBB in partnership with Access Records & Media Management would like to thank all the small business and individuals that took part in the first ever Shed It! Secure Your ID Day community event held on October 14, 2011 in the Tillicum Centre Parking Lot.

Over 10,000 pounds of paper were shredded – the equivalent of 400+ full file boxes of confidential documents. The event also raised $1688.50 through individual donations and the sale of hot dogs, which will be donated to local charities through the Rotary Club of Victoria.

“The purpose of the Shred It! Secure Your ID Day event was to raise awareness about people’s vulnerability to identity theft and to encourage people to get into the routine of responsibly shredding confidential information,” says Rosalind Scott, Executive Director of BBB Vancouver Island. “We cannot thank the small business, individuals and media that took part in this event enough. Shredding confidential information is a very simple thing that everyone can do to significantly reduce their chances, and the chances of businesses and customers becoming victims of identity theft.”

The BBB would also like to thank all the sponsors that contributed to this event. Without the generous support of a number of sponsors the BBB would not have been able to make this a FREE community event for everyone to take advantage of.
