BBB Accredited Business receive one free mediation or arbitration for a formal BBB complaint, each year. As an added service BBB of Vancouver Island also provides reduced rate arbitration and mediation services to Accredited Businesses that do not have formal BBB complaints currently being processed, but who may have a conflict or dispute with a customer that needs the help of an independent third party to bring to resolution (without the costs of going to court).

BBB will assist your business in finding, coordinating and scheduling a mediation or arbitration to bring a conflict to a close. The cost of the arbitration or mediation may be covered solely by the business, shared between the business and the consumer, or determined as part of the mediation or arbitration process.

Specific costs for mediation and arbitration services vary depending on the specifics of the case.

What is Mediation and Arbitration?

Mediation is a form of dispute resolution in which an independent third party works to help two or more parities in coming together to negotiate or reach an agreement.

Arbitration is a form of dispute resolution in which an independent third party (typically a trained arbitrator, lawyer or judge) is presented with two sides of a dispute (by the parties involved), to which he or she will provide a final decision as to how the issue shall be resolved. The final ruling of an arbitration is legally binding.
