Well it’s official – 2012 has almost come and gone. What an interesting year it has been. On behalf of the staff and board of directors of BBB Vancouver Island I wish you and your employees a relaxing and very happy holiday season.
Your BBB has had a very busy year. 2012 marked the 100th Anniversary of the international BBB system and the 50th Anniversary of the BBB serving Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, Powell River and Haida Gwaii. We celebrated this exciting achievement at our annual Torch Awards event. This year’s event had a magical, experiential circus theme to it, and honored local businesses that have been accredited for 50 years!
In October we hosted our second annual community-shredding event. We managed to shred over 10,000 pounds of confidential documents and raised over $1600 for charity. We also launched ScamWATCH on Shaw TV. BBB in partnership with the Victoria Police and RCMP uses ScamWATCH to provide consumers with updates and tips on the latest scams impacting our community.
We’ve also launched an intensive social media campaign to better promote the variety of things the BBB does. New Accredited Businesses are welcomed each month on our social media sites. Current Accredited Businesses that have accomplished milestones are also recognized. Our “Did You Know?” campaign highlights interesting facts about the BBB as a system, and our “ScamTalk” campaigns provides bite size bits of information on differing scams and what you can do to protect yourself.
We couldn’t have accomplished any of these achievements this year, or in years past without the support of our Accredited Businesses. I would like to take this time to thank you for your commitment to ethics in the marketplace and to supporting the BBB serving Vancouver Island.
I wish you the best this festive season. May your new year be filled with the success and happiness in all that you do.
